Enablers Enablers

Brain-Based Learning

Last Updated Sep 28, 2009

Presenter: Sharon R. Berry, PhD

This Enabler series takes a look at current research in how children learn based on brain development and function as we more fully cooperate with the way God created us. Our challenge as educators is to integrate this information with the truths of God as we enhance the learning experiences of students. The sessions will include both research and its logical applications in the classroom. Lots of questions, discussions and helpful suggestions will occur as four major topics are addressed. All sessions culminate in the challenge to renew our minds with biblical principles that blend all information into a cohesive whole that then translates to more effective teaching.

Who should attend? Teachers, Administrators, and anyone in education

 Four highlights attendees will glean:

  • The Basics of Brain Development and Function, with a look at basic health principles and curriculum design that enhance learning,
  • The Head to Heart to Hand Connection, with a look at emotional intelligence, motivation and classroom management,
  • Remembering to Remember, with a focus on how our brains develop systems for storage and retrieval of information,
  • Executive Brain Function, taking a look at higher-order thinking skills, self-determinant thought, goal setting and management of behavior that proceed from the frontal cortex.
