Council for American Private Education

ACSI is a member of the Council for American Private Education (CAPE). CAPE’s website includes updates on private and religious school issues, especially at the federal level. Utilize the CAPE Legislative Action Center. There you can type in your zip code and your elected members of Congress (House and Senate) will pop-up. Also visit the Public Policy page where you will find issues of importance to American private and religious schools.

United States Department of Education

Visit the United States Department of Education’s website. A search function is included on the USDE’s home page. Many options are available, such as publications, news and events, research and statistics, and college student financial assistance. The home page also has a list of hotlinks to the “most requested” categories by site visitors.

Non-Public Education of the US Department of Education

Office of Non-Public Education of the U.S. Department of Education. This site publishes state by state a list of the laws and regulations that apply to private schools. It is also a great source for educational statistics for private schools.

U.S. Library of Congress

This site is maintained by the U.S. Library of Congress. Search here for bills that are currently being considered by the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate by name, number or wording. You can also search for many existing public laws and bills of previous Congressional sessions that did not become law. Learn about Committees of the House and Senate, their current schedule, and status of bills. Read or download pages from the Congressional Record.

U.S. Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court maintains this website where one can learn about the Court and how it operates. Some opinions are also available here.

United States Senate

This is the formal U.S. Senate website with many enlightening historic features. Learn about committees and obtain addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses for all 100 Senators. Send emails to your Senators from this site.

The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice includes a site for all private school laws and regulations state by state.

The United States Department of Labor

On this website, you can find labor law information including FLSA, ADA, FMLA and more.

Peacemaker Ministries 

Peacemaker Ministries, Billings, Montana, equips and assists Christians to respond to conflicts biblically. Many Christian schools mandate in their personnel materials that conflicts must be settled by Christian mediation/arbitration. This organization publishes the booklet Guidelines for Christian Conciliation, which contains the “Rules of Procedure for Christian Conciliation."

National Center for Education Statistics

This U.S. Department of Education Agency publishes information from all those surveys filled out by public and private schools. Pages of information are available regarding the private school sector.

Institute for Justice

This organization has provided the attorneys to litigate most of the court cases dealing with tax credits and vouchers. Information about these cases can be found at this Institute for Justice website.

Alliance Defense Fund

The Alliance Defense Fund is a legal alliance defending the right to hear and speak the Truth through strategy, training, funding, and litigation. They have work with ACSI on several court cases.

Advocates for Faith & Freedom

Advocates for Faith and Freedom is a non-profit law firm dedicated to protecting religious liberty in the courts. Their mission is to engage in cases that will uphold our religious liberty and America’s heritage and to educate Americans about our fundamental constitutional rights. They have worked with ACSI in California.

Alliance for School Choice

The Alliance for School Choice is a national leader in promoting school vouchers and scholarship tax credit programs. As a nonprofit organization, they work collaboratively with state and national groups to advance school choice.

The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice

The Friedman Foundation plays a critical and unique role in the school choice movement. As the only national organization dedicated solely to advancing Milton and Rose Friedman’s vision of an education system where all parents are free to choose, they bring an unsurpassed clarity of purpose to the education reform debate.

Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO)

Dr. Howard Fuller, former superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools, heads up this group for parental choice in education. BAEO’s website includes current parental choice news and commentary.  ACSI’s Dr. Vernard Gant represents religious inner-city schools on their Board of Directors.

Fisher & Phillips LLP is one of the oldest and largest firms in the country representing management in the areas of labor, employment, civil rights, employee benefits and immigration law. On this website you can find labor laws for a number of states.

Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability

ECFA is an accreditation agency dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to Seven Standards of Responsible StewardshipTM. Founded in 1979, ECFA provides accreditation to leading Christian nonprofit organizations that faithfully demonstrate compliance with established standards for financial accountability, fund-raising and board governance. Christian Video Licensing International

Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) is a partnership between Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC) and Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) created to specifically serve the needs of the religious community.

This new independent licensing agency provides an all-encompassing low cost license to churches, religious schools, childcare centers and all other church-operated sites. The CVLI license includes over 5 affiliated producers, ranging from Hollywood studios and Christian producers to Family Values and faith-based producers.

The CVLI Family Values license allows you to comply with the U.S. Copyright Act requirement for a license to exhibit copyrighted home videocassettes and DVDs, both simply and affordably. ACSI members receive a 10% discount off the license fee.

State Childcare Licensing Agencies

This website allows the user to go straight to early education licensing regs for each state and provides contact information for the licensing agency in each state.

E-Rate Telecommunication Discounts

Under the federal Telecommunications Act of 1996, schools receive subsidized communications services that save them between 20% and 90% of their telecommunication expenses. The discount is based on a predetermined formula calculated on economic disadvantage of a school’s students and whether the school is in an urban or rural area. Schools must apply for the discount on an annual basis. This website describes the process.

FirstGov

The site is designed to make the millions of government web pages (including federal, state, and local sites) easily available to the average user.

Legal Information Institute

All U.S. Supreme Court decisions can be accessed here starting with decisions made in 1990. The site maintains a 600 case database on historical cases that occurred before that date. The Court’s schedule, operating procedures, and legal terms are covered here.

Quality 990

This site provides information on IRS Form 990 and on projects that educate charities about Form 990. It also provides articles on charity disclosure rules and other legal issues affecting nonprofits. Note that Form 990 is used by independent, lay-board–operated Christian schools. Church owned and operated schools do not use this form.

Schoolbus Fleet Magazine

This site provides articles and general information about school bus operations, maintenance, and safety. Bus and bus parts vendors are also listed at this site.

Locating Drug and Alcohol Testing Facilities

This site is maintained by the Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association and contains comprehensive listings of more than 1,000 drug and alcohol testing services. The website has a search function so that you can zero in on your state and city. Once you have located a provider, a map and directions to the office can be printed.

College Crime Statistics

The OPE Campus Security Statistics website is brought to you by the Office of Postsecondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education. It was authorized by Congress with the 1998 amendment to the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA) to help potential college students and their parents research criminal offenses on college campuses. The Department of Education is committed to assisting schools in providing students with a safe environment in which to learn and to keeping parents and students well informed about campus security.
