September 2009 Parent/Teacher Letter

Last Updated Mar 31, 2010

K.I.D. Time is a prayer tool that is available for parents and teachers as a free download. Each month teachers can print out the calendar to use in the classroom or to send home for families to use. As the children develop a habit of prayer, they will be exercising one of the most powerful tools available to Christians.

When you and your students said yes to Jesus as your Savior, you became part of God’s family. God has a plan and a task for each believer: the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20). Often believers leave the task of going and telling others about Jesus for someone else—missionaries—to do. God doesn’t put an age requirement or possession of a passport as prerequisites for carrying out the Great Commission. Each follower of Christ is part of the same team with the same goal. God’s desire for all people to know Him and worship Him began back in Genesis and will continue until He returns. This huge job can’t be accomplished by just a few people; each one of us is needed! Every believer can make an impact on reaching the world by going wherever God has opened doors to go and by doing whatever can enable people to know that God loves them.

What is your task? This year we will explore ways that you and your students can discover and do your task. God’s goal is to be known and worshipped in every corner of the earth, and He invites each Christian to participate in reaching that goal. This year you and your students can explore together twelve different tasks that you can do for God in your own homes, neighborhoods, and communities. You have a mission field that extends everywhere your feet touch and to every person you meet. Keep the goal in mind to make the name of God known and encourage others to worship Him. Look for people God has placed in your mission field, and discover ways you can let them know about Jesus. Let’s not waste any more time—let’s work hard for God!

Every month the K.I.D. Time prayer calendar will feature a different country. The first letter of each country, in month-by-month order, spells out the year’s theme: What is my task? During the weekdays, each prayer point will target information about the featured country and give specific ways to pray for the people of that country. What a wonderful opportunity to teach your class how to take information and turn it into something to pray about! On the weekends, the focus shifts to a task that all believers in Christ can do to help spread the good news of Jesus Christ. At the end of the year, you’ll be amazed at how much you and your class have learned to do that can help fulfill the Great Commission!

Remember to download the free supplemental instructional materials. These materials include fun ideas, crafts, learning activities, and prayer group ideas that are divided into three groups: early education (preschool), elementary, and middle school/high school. The chapel activities incorporate a Bible lesson related to the task and the country of the month and encourage students to see their role in missions right now. The calendar and the supplemental activities give you tools to help your students grasp God’s desire that all people know and worship Him. Use the monthly materials, and let’s all take seriously the question, What is my task?
