Continuing Education Units

Last Updated Nov 3, 2009

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are used by many professions as a measure of ongoing training required to maintain credentials. Some of the requirements in biblical or professional studies can be met using CEUs. Typically, the training is provided through individuals or organizations recognized to fulfill this role. The credit evaluation form you will receive with your certificate will indicate which requirements may be met with CEUs.

In most states there is a program of continuing education for educators who wish to use CEUs, or in-service points as they are also called, to recertify. ACSI has recognized many individuals and organizations that can provide training in biblical or educational studies for ACSI educators. ACSI member schools can become approved CEU providers by completing and submitting the application below.

How many in-class hours are required for a CEU?

Six hours of direct instruction are required for one CEU. Study assignments, reading, writing, and research time are not included in the six hours.

How do I know whether an in-service activity is recognized for CEUs from ACSI?

The Certification Department keeps a list of all ACSI-approved providers who issue a certificate to each participant. Applicants should verify the approval of a CEU provider before participation.

Can CEU activities be provided by a school or individual?

Yes, if the school or individual has been approved by ACSI. CEU approval or credit may not be backdated.
